flower fairy invasion

Posted on December 29, 2009 - Filed Under kiddo life, making things | 3 Comments

First it was the bears. But now we have a new infestation.
Fairies.

Flower fairies to be exact!

Yes, Santa brought Sophie a kit on making little flower fairies and we have all gotten totally hooked on making these tiny, pretty people.

Coincidentally, our cousin gave Sophie exactly the same kit—could have been a present disaster, but no!—it’s a [...]

no holds barred christmas

Posted on December 24, 2009 - Filed Under kiddo life | 2 Comments

We are in full on Christmas induced mania around here and it probably won’t stop until Saturday at least. We basically declare it Open Season on presents, fancy food, and parties around December 1 and commence with the celebrating all the way through to the New Year. Boxes arrive from the grandparents, or from amazon, [...]

…also called love-mommy-asana. Luc named it. He says, “Is it time for loveasana yet?” It’s my all-time favorite pose. It happens at the end of my practice, when the kids have been waiting to get close for over an hour (don’t get too close to an ashtangi or you’re liable to get kicked by a [...]

Those Weather Men & Women are getting really good at their jobs. They told us it was going to start snowing around noon, and darned if it didn’t start snowing right on schedule, huge, fluffy feather flakes, coming down like gangbusters, just as we were driving home from the toy store at our local mall. [...]

I just got two more rejections, the most recent in a whole lot of publishing-related rejections this year. Blech. Stick’em in the file with the rest of them, right?
Part of me feels depressed, but it feels sort of ghostlike, a shadow—a dark shadow, perhaps, but a shadow nonetheless—of former publishing related depressions. Such that, although [...]

Posted on December 15, 2009 - Filed Under food, kiddo life | 2 Comments

We’re totally infested with gingerbread bears. It’s a nightmare, let me tell you. It all started with some dough.
Best Gingerbread Cookie Dough Ever
Take 3/4 cup butter, softened
and 3/4 cup sugar.
Cream these together.
Add 3/4 cup molasses and
1/4 cup water and mix a bit more. I usually do all this in my food processor.
Next whisk together in [...]

This book can change your life. I am NOT kidding. As a yoga person, trying to avoid injuries, this book is [...]

what does a girl have to do get a little rest around here?

Posted on December 9, 2009 - Filed Under mayalife | 5 Comments

Ugh. I’ve had this terrible cold the last two days, just deflated, pitiful, lying on the couch, moaning. Parenting has been reduced to mac n cheese and TV. Thank goodness it stopped raining today so at least the kiddos can go outside and get away from my grumpy assed self. [ETA: although I did manage [...]
