i’m joining the circus!
A week ago, Sophie spent five days at Fun Camp, a wonderful day camp sort of thing, run by some enterprising and creative teen-agers we know. She had a total blast. One of the things the group did was create a play to show to the parents on the last day. It was called Circus Smirkus Makes Friends (I think…the name went by so fast, I can’t be 100% sure I got it right) and Sophie had a starring role as, what else? Princess Sophie!
The story goes like this. Princess Sophie is minding her own business when the Evil Squad captures her and takes her to their pirate boat. The Super Heros (pictured below) come to save her, but a big storm shipwrecks both groups onto the Island of Circus Smirkus.
Some fighting ensues, to be stopped by Sophie’s magnificent line:
“You don’t have to fight over me anymore! I’m joining the circus!”
Here she is delivering it:
(I have found this line to be useful in all sorts of circumstances.)
The loss of Princess Sophie seems to dissolve the conflict and everyone becomes friends. Yeah!
Afterwards, watermelon was had by all. Here is Sophie, Luc, and their Great Aunt Nettie, enjoying the post-production glow.
I love the theater.

"Dusi's Wings" April, 2003. . . .
"One thing fantasy can do for us is to give shape to the mysterious in the world; another is to make emotional yearning concrete. The early sections of "Dusi's Wings" do just that...there was a strong grasping towards the spiritual in fantasy here that was very promising, and I look forward to reading more by Lassiter." --review, Tangent Online.tags
