We have mini-nubian goats, miniature Nubians, bred by mixing a full-sized Nubian doe with a Nygerian Dwarf buck. What you get (hopefully, although genetics can be tricky) is a small goat that looks and milks like a Nubian. This is an American breed (versus, say, Toggenburg goats from Switzerland), that hasn’t been around for long, less than ten years. We chose this breed for several reasons. The Nubian part means you get good milkers, with high fat-content milk, that is very mild in flavor (unlike the Toggs who were bred for making certain kinds of cheese and have a strong tasting milk). The miniature part seemed like a good idea since we wanted Sophie and Luc to be safe and comfortable around the goats. This has worked out very well. The goats are smart, sweet, loving, and the milk is, indeed, creamy and mild. (A friend visiting the other day had a taste and asked, perplexed, “are you sure this is goat milk?”)

Of course, in order to get a lactating goat, you have to have a Mama goat, which means baby goats, which means selling baby goats, unless you want to expand your herd. A lot. Every year.

Here are our babies for sale. Know anyone who wants to buy a sweet tempered, adorable, baby goat?
